Nancy Drew Event at The Poisoned Pen

Nancy Drew Sleuths will put on a Nancy Drew event at The Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ on Tuesday, March 20 at 5:30pm. We will discuss the two classic Nancy Drew books set in AZ: #5 The Secret of Shadow Ranch and #62, The Kachina Doll Mystery plus other series set in AZ. Our regional group of AZ Sleuths meets there every other month for a Nancy Drew book group.

The Poisoned Pen is a great local/independent and renowned bookstore in Scottsdale located at 4014 N. Goldwater Blvd. They regularly feature up and coming as well as big name authors for book talks and signings.

Rockin' R Ranch

Wednesday night during the Nancy Drew convention, we'll find ourselves enjoying a chuckwagon dinner and western stage show and old-time gunfight at Rockin' R Ranch in Mesa, AZ featuring the Rockin' R Wranglers. I'm really looking forward to this evening as I know everyone is going to have a great time. 

My family used to spend summers in Ruidoso, NM every year when I was growing up. My cousins would fly in and we'd all go with my grandparents and my parents as well as other family to Ruidoso and spend a couple of weeks in a cabin and enjoy all the fun things to do. We'd go horseback riding and visit White Sands and so many more fun things including going to the Flying J Ranch which was very similar to the Rockin' R Ranch where they had an old Western town set up with gunfight, gold panning, shops, and a dinner and western stage show and the biscuits were fabulous. We'd buy their biscuit mix every summer. We haven't been in several years now, so I am really looking forward to visiting the Rockin' R Ranch which I found out they both have some affiliation and are friends with each other and help each other out between the two establishments. Exciting!

Dolly Steamboat Tour

Just down the road from the mysterious Goldfield Ghost Town is the Canyon Lake area which features the Dolly Steamboat! While we might not find any "ghosts" on this steamboat like Nancy Drew did on the Haunted Showboat, we will be sure to enjoy the sights on the nature cruise following our visit to the Ghost Town.

The nature cruise is about an hour and a half and you can learn more about it and view photos at their website.

Nancy Drew - Ghost Town 

In the revision of The Secret of Shadow Ranch, Nancy and her chums visit a ghost town and find some clues to the mystery at hand. Sleuths will also get to visit a real ghost town, Goldfield Ghost Town, outside Apache Junction, AZ during the convention. Attractions at the ghost town include a mine tour, reptile exhibit, museum, railroad ride, gold panning and much more including horseback riding or carriage rides. There a plenty of shops to find souvenirs and Kachina Dolls plus a bakery, ice cream shop and general store. You can have your own wanted poster made and take old-time western photos. Sleuths will also compete in a challenge for prizes. And that's just the first part of the day...
