ALICIA KLEIN NANCY DREW LEATHER
ACCESSORIES ORDER INFO:

Ok, got some scoops on the Nancy Drew leather accessories by Alicia Klein:

Code to save 25%: NDS2009

Products are due in CA by mid-Nov. She has a limited amount of the Nancy Drew taxi wallets (they're really cool!) on hand right now. She suggested that those of you interested go ahead and e-mail/and or call to get your name on a waiting list for the products. The reason being, that they are only producing limited quantities right now as a test product for some of the items and they want to get an idea of interest before doing more. So, my suggestion is to call and/or e-mail quickly. Here's the info you need:

info@AliciaKlein.com and phone number (800) 735-2512. She said it would be very helpful when e-mailing to include your full name, mailing address, and phone number. If you do e-mail I would suggest following up with a phone call. Be sure to mention the discount code!

Contact E-mail: sleuths@ndsleuths.com

Hi Sleuths,

I've got a lot of stuff to go over in this month's E-News & Clues Blog! So much so that I'm also pasting all this info into the e-mail reminder sent out to you all about the Blog. There's been a lot of activity in the news lately in regard to Nancy Drew! I got to do an interview on Good Morning America recently and they had a film company come out and shoot me and the collection. I also published an article in the Arizona Republic on Nancy Drew. And a NY Times piece was published that ran a quote from me which was fun. Look for those links below if you're interested in seeing and reading them.

Our 2009 convention merchandise shop is almost available! I'll let you all know shortly in a future Blog/e-mail about what we're up to this year! Sleuth Lea Fox created our Sleuth Survivor badge shown above for this year's convention!

If you couldn't attend this year's convention and can't attend next year's, we've got absentee registration that's perfect for you! You'll get all the goodies without the travel. Almost the next best thing ;) See below for details.

Don't forget our 2010 convention! It's the 80th anniversary of Nancy Drew! Our 10th anniversary. The 105th anniversary of the Stratemeyer Syndicate. So many milestones next year! We're also inviting Hardy Boys fans to join us for the first time! "Double the Mystery. Double the Fun!" See details on the convention below.

2010 CONVENTION REGISTRATION & DEADLINES:

We've got land (April 6 to 10) and cruise (April 11 to 15)--attend one or both. Hardy Boys fans invited--we're focusing on both Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys! Lots of fanfare being planned and so it's going to be one not to miss!

There is an early registration discount if you register for the cruise by September 1st and a discount on registering for land by Oct. 15. We've got Sleuths and fans already booking, so don't miss out! When you book you just have to put down a deposit. Deadline to register for both land/sea is January 2010.

Visit our website for all the convention details and how to register/book!

FYI: Our group is running a half-page ad in the Bouchercon mystery convention program this coming October advertising our fan group and the 2010 convention. With over 2000++ mystery fans in attendance at that convention, my suggestion is booking by October is a good idea, in case we really fill slots after our ad runs. Of course, we'll keep our website updated as to how space is filling.

We are going to have a raffle at our 2009 Vegas convention for all those attending. It will help benefit the local Las Vegas-Clark County public library! LOCAL SLEUTH BOOK DISCUSSION GROUPS:

I'd really like to see more Sleuths getting together with other Sleuths in their areas to have meetings and book discussions. It's really not that heavy on time commitment! I've organized our AZ Sleuths and we meet every other month at a local Barnes & Noble store. Our Carolina Sleuths do the same--at a Borders store. And our NH and VA Sleuths are working on getting together.

This is a great way to meet new Nancy Drew fans and have fun with local collectors--especially for those of you who cannot afford to attend conventions! It's like a mini convention in your own backyard ;)

All it takes is one organized Sleuth with the motivation to set it up and keep it running smoothly. I simply talked to my local B&N store with the manager, they set us up, put it on their calendar and we just meet there and chat. I contacted members in my area via e-mail/snail mail and asked if they were interested, got a list of those interested and each month we're having the meeting I send out an RSVP reminder e-mail of the date/time, and get an idea of who's coming. We discuss the books and have so much fun. So I'm really encouraging everyone to try this out. As you can see, my work with it is not that time intensive if you're worried about that.

Those of you interested in doing this, contact me and I'll send an e-mail out to all those members who live in your area. If they're interested in doing this, I'll have them contact you directly to facilitate it. Smooth sailing!

It's great publicity for Nancy Drew and our group. It would be so nice to see this being done in other areas in 2010 for the 80th. Besides discussing the books you guys can go book hunting and plan parties and visits to see each other's collections. The sky's the limit!

NANCY DREW AT UCSD:

If you're nearby or in San Diego, the Univ. of San Diego is putting on a Nancy Drew exhibit in August - 1st through 31st with Nancy Drew collectibles/books on display. They're having live events on August 15 and 17 with lots of fun stuff going on including a "radio" interview with me where they'll phone me and we'll chat for the audience to hear!

Here's a blurb from their website which has the dates/times/directions:

"This summer, we celebrate all things Nancy Drew. Does she represent ''girl power'' better than any other pop icon? Is she our favorite feminist? This exhibit of Nancy Drew books, Nancy Drew memorabilia and serious Nancy Drew scholarship will feature a live event with refreshments prepared from the Nancy Drew Cookbook. At the live event, classic Nancy Drew mysteries will be performed in the style of old time radio drama entertainment. Actors from San Diego's Write Out Loud project will assist. Sounds & music provided by Scott Paulson and the Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra. A live phone-in radio interview with Nancy Drew expert Jenn Fisher is featured at the live events."

THE SLEUTH: JULY/AUGUST '09 + SUBSCRIBER SPECIAL:

Our July/August '09 issue of The Sleuth goes to print next week. For anyone interested in subscribing, check out our zine.

BACK ISSUE SPECIAL: Any issue just $5.00! or 5/$20.00 through August 31st.

Feb & Mar '09 E-News & Clues

E-mail: sleuths@ndsleuths.com

Hi Sleuths!

I'm keeping it simple for Feb./Mar. '09 and combining E-News Blogs. There's not a whole lot going on right now! Anyone got an exciting mystery to solve? ;)

In this E-News & Clues: Nancy Drew News, Rizzoli ND Calendar Update, Jan/Feb '09 The Sleuth, & '09 Sleuth Convention:

NANCY DREW NEWS: Feb. '09 Releases:

Papercutz: What Goes Up

Mar. '09 Releases:

Girl Detective: Identity Revealed
Clue Crew: April Fool's Day

RIZZOLI ND CALENDAR UPDATE:

The 2010 Nancy Drew engagement calendar will be out this July and it's like a day-planner type calendar with each week filling a page along with lots of illustrations from the books and images. I sent some images for the calendar to help them get it together. They ran into issues where they couldn't use picture covers much due to the texture in scanning them. It's going to be great, so look for that neat collectible to be out in just a few months.

JAN./FEB. '09 THE SLEUTH:

See the Blog entry below this one for the cover image and detailed contents of our Jan./Feb. '09 issue of The Sleuth. Our next issue will have the theme Togo or Not Togo--all about Togo! We're looking for submissions or just your general comments about Nancy's little furry guy!

Hi Everyone!

In this E-News & Clues: Sleuth Convention Merchandise, Nancy Drew Books/Collectibles FS, Nancy Drew News, The Sleuth Special.

SLEUTH CONVENTION MERCHANDISE:

We've added new items!

I've updated our convention shop at our website with altered art journals and altered art scrapbooking sets:

http://www.ndsleuths.com/sleuthconventionshop.html

Each set also includes: 5 pieces of cardstock in white and 4 shades of blue, set of footprint stickers, 4 foot print paperclips, 2 rolls of blue satin ribbon, 1 roll of peachy orange satin ribbon, 8 stickers of the internal endpaper illustrations, and 5 neat pewter mystery charms: flashlight, fingerprint, footprints, magnifying glass, and a girl in a convertible.

Each Blank Journal has 75 to 100 blank pages inside. These have been made using vintage Nancy Drew picture cover and tweed covers. Spiral Bound.

We also still have altered art charms available!

August '08 E-News & Clues

Sleuths,

Summer flew by! Hope you all had a great summer, it's winding down now, fall is fast approaching! That means some of you will be traveling along soon to Bird-in-Hand, PA for our 8th annual convention: Sept. 30-Oct. 5. We have quite a crowd converging in the area this year, so I'm looking forward to meeting new faces and seeing old chums. Lots of newbies this year! For those you not attending, look for lots of recaps in our Sept/Oct issue of The Sleuth. We'll also do some blogging here during the convention too.

I was really pleased to get to license Nancy Drew for the convention again and get the leeway to do so many different things with it--we've got lots of neat vintage images and items this year! See info below!

In this E-News & Clues: Cookbook Reprints?, The Sleuth, Sleuth Convention Merchandise FS, & Nancy Drew News.

COOKBOOK REPRINTS:

We sold 100 of our 150 planned cookbooks, the last 50 were never printed. Is there sufficient interest to print the last 50? If you'd like to have one of the Sleuth cookbook/scrapbooks which turned out really nice, e-mail me. I'll need 50 orders before I will print them up. If you got one and wanted a second, this is your chance.

Here was our info page on the cookbook--however, disregard price and shipping at this time, as I'll need to get a quote at the printers and shipping has gone up at the PO since this info was posted. My guess is that cookbooks will stay around 15 to 20 each and shipping media about 4.25 to include box/packing materials. Priority would be flat rate at about 10.00. Overseas/Canada would be much more expensive now that shipping options have changed.

http://www.ndsleuths.com/sleuthcookbook

THE SLEUTH:

Reminder: The Sept/Oct issue of The Sleuth will run a tad late to include convention info/write ups, and photos.

Subscribe/Order a back issue:

http://www.ndsleuths.com/thesleuth.html

SLEUTH CONVENTION MERCHANDISE:

I think we've outdone ourselves this year for our Nancy Drew Sleuth convention merchandise! We have officially licensed Nancy Drew again from Simon & Schuster/G&D and have expanded greatly on our merchandise both as to artwork styles and as to products available! Lots more art and more products. Also all sizes, kids/jrs/women/unisex for the clothing and many more clothing selections this year. Any clothing not labeled "jrs/kids/or womens" is unisex and can be worn by women and men.

Limited quantity/limited time--sales only through October 31st. I won't have a lot of this at the convention due to space/leftovers issues so Cafe Press is the place to shop!

You can learn more about the shop, see sample images of what we're using on the products and see sample product images at our website: (There's a neat slide show of the images!)

http://www.ndsleuths.com/sleuthconventionshop.html

Or go straight to our Cafe Press shop and start shopping:

http://www.cafepress.com/nancydrewsleuth

I have kept the images somewhat small on the samples page, due to copyright issues and image stealers on the web, though it's not foolproof, however, if you go to the Cafe Press shop--using the above link--all you have to do is enter a section, click on a product, say for example a totebag, and then on the page that comes up, click on the "view larger" link under the product image. Then click on the "zoom in on image" link on the page that comes up--it will zoom in on the product image where you can read the slogans/phrases.

We really went vintage this year and are using a lot more vintage Nancy Drew cover art as well as the cute and whimsical blue multi pic endpapers! Plus the Witch Tree covers--our theme--and a neat Nancy Drew silhouette hex sign created by Sleuth Kelly Boettlin that turned out great!

We've got mystery slogans, kitschy humor/slogans all using vintage images as well as a fabulous collage of Nancy Drew images and actual phrases from the classic Nancy Drew books spoken by Nancy and her chums--each collage has different phrases on it.

I think everyone will be pleased with the way the shop has turned out--if we do pretty successful sales, we might turn this into a more long term licensing venture, so support the shop and you may be able to get some of these things year round in the future!

It's located as usual at Cafe Press, and it's designed by sections--each section is by image, so click on a section and you'll see all products available with that particular image. Very user friendly, very easy to shop.

And a bonus, soon to be available only at our Sleuths website (NOT Cafe Press), in September, will be very limited quantity altered art items using vintage book covers: beaded handle Nancy Drew Handbags with vintage covers, and scrapbooking kits, and journals using vintage book covers.

AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW: Altered Art Nancy Drew Charms at our website:

http://www.ndsleuths.com/sleuthconventionshop.html

22 styles, 4 of each style for sale, so limited quantities!

NANCY DREW BOOK THEME GIFT EXCHANGE:

See the image at the top of this blog for a visual on what you can do with a vintage book!

We're going to try something new! We're going to have a special crafts exchange this summer. It will work like the usual exchange where you make a gift and send it to a fellow Sleuth member. You in return will also receive a gift from another Sleuth member. The theme of this exchange is crafting items using vintage Nancy Drew books. Now before some of you pass out, my suggestion is to use worn out falling apart books, not a new vintage book if you're going to alter the book in any way. Some things we have seen done with vintage books: journals, clocks, lamps, purses. There are so many other things that could be done. I'd like to see how crafty everyone can get! The great thing is, that you'll get something really neat and crafty back for all your hard work in designing your gift to a fellow Sleuth! Need a worn out book? You can find plenty cheap on eBay!

Join up for this exchange by July 1, shipping gifts around mid-July. We have had dwindling numbers in the exchanges the last couple years, so I'd like to see if this special theme exchange helps encourage more to participate!
